Sea buckthorn Honey Mustard
I made some smoked duck sausage, and I wanted to use sea buckthorn so I made a mustard. I cooked down the berries and then pureed them and added honey and mustard powder. They are so tart that the honey is necessary to bring out their tropical flavor.
It’s a struggle for me to post because I am very busy with university and in my spare time I just lay in bed and think about how horrible I am. Since I’m not cooking I feel like I’ve lost my identity as a cook, and looking back on my cooking days I’ve realized I had a terrible ego problem. This winter is hard for me because I wasn’t here this summer to prepare by preserving and setting up my grow light. For some reason Kyle has agreed to stay with me here for a year so we will see what Saskatchewan has to offer this summer.
We have been looking for a building for a restaurant for the last 6 months and have had no luck, so I’m a little sad about that as well. I feel I should carry on writing this for Kyle’s mom who relies on this blog for updates on us which is why I started it in the first place. This seasonal depression, sad sack shit is for you Jody.
Glad you are blogging, and you are far from “horrible”. I wish I could help you realize that, but I don’t know how. You accomplish everything you set your mind to.. I know.. I have seen it your whole life. We are home now.. drop in to see what we brought you and Kyle. xoxoxoxoxoxox
Awww my sweet Christie. Yes I do rely on the blog but that’s because I miss you so much. Plus you are just so good at writing it and it is very interesting to read. You are far from horrible. I do know how you feel and we all get despressed sometimes. I know you are busy but soon spring will be here and you will feel much better. Soon you will be getting your fabulous garden going and that, I know, will make you happy. You are cooking!!! I have seen the results : ) Looks amazing to me and I know you did a lot of it yourself while Kyle was here lolly gagging. LOL. I was happy to see him though. Next visit here will be both of you, he says, and that makes me happy. I know he sure was sorry to be here without you and missed you terribly. We will be there this summer to see you and I will enjoy all the cooking you will be doing for me.
Chin up, Honey. It’s o.k. to be depressed occasionally so don’t beat yourself up about it. Just work your way through it and soon it will be spring. I love you to pieces and if you don’t want to blog it’s o.k. and you don’t have to do it for me….but I do LOVE it. Now get going and see what your Mum brought you!!!
