Mushrooms
These are some other mushrooms I’ve found this year. The last ones I found in Saskatoon, they are called stinkhorn. I thought that I wouldn’t find as many mushrooms in Saskatchewan as I did in BC but I’ve been finding tons here. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the stinkhorns I wasn’t even sure they were mushrooms, I had to go to the library to look it up. I thought they were a plant or aliens or poo. The tip of them is slimy and stinky like poo. It doesn’t look so slimy in this picture because I took it later in the afternoon and they were a bit dryer, but in the morning when I found them they were so slimy. I touched it and it smelled so bad and I felt embarrassed. The slime is their spores, the spores attract flies and the flies disperse them around. What a weird mushroom, I couldn’t stop giggling when I found out about it.
On a side note I never touch the mushrooms I find, but lately I’ve been touching some but just washing my hands after.
ewwwww!
Hi Crust!
I was so enthralled in mushrooms this year, I picked almost daily. chanterelles, boletes, shrimp & lobster mushrooms. A highly addictive past time;
foraging – the new cocaine.
I can’t wait till spring, morels!
There is an excellent book if you ever want to learn more, called “All that the rain promises, and more”. It is most pertinent to the west coast, but full of strange people, exuberantly excited over strange fungi.
Oh yeah, if you want, my cousin runs a dance company in Saskatoon, called def sol, its a hip hop company, her names anita kai, shes pretty rad.
hope your well.

Mushrooms are fucking amazing. Thank you for sharing that book with me! I’ve been trying to get a book called mycelium running, it’s about the underground mycelium that covers vast areas of land. Super cool that your cousin lives here, I’ll check her out.
