Sunday Funday

Food — By Crust on November 3, 2008

When I first started working at Chow I worked one day a week, Sunday. It was all they had availible at the time, Sundays on garde manger.  We had an amazing sous chef who called it sunday funday, because the chef takes that day off. after he quit Sunday Funday was no more…until now. We just re-opened on Sundays and our new sous chef is super cool. It is the unofficial industry night and all the cooks, chefs and servers from all the other restaurants come in. Today the kitchen got sent 3 bottles of wine from industry people and we cracked into them early and the rest of the night was a blur of bad jokes about blood sex, and shitting ones pants. I just got home and made polenta with bison shortribs that I braised on my day off, because I’m still drunk and full of energy.

    Funday sounds – well, fun!
Also, were you working whilst imbibing on those 3 bottles of wine? Am I an uncool nerd to be worried about the safety of all those tipsy cooks in an industrial kitchen?
